I have always been ambivalent about the media. To some extent, I rely on it to understand the world. It provides information but also filters(过滤) issues and events from the other side of the world and even from my own community.

The 2006 Winter Olympics were supposed to have set a new standard for increased coverage but most viewers had difficulty even finding the programs. Television seemed to only provide summaries of particular events and the print media occasionally printed a story of a medial win.
Recently a wheelchair athlete carried the flag in the opening ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games (英联邦运动会) and got some coverage. But critics said that this event was only reported because it was a human interest story.
In their defense, many in the media stare that they only report what the public demands. They don't say that they are simply neutral (中立的) carriers of messages but they do, in the end, say that their actions are simply benign (无恶意的).
The Paralympics (残疾人奥运会) TV coverage on the web provided by the International Paralympics Committee, although not perfect, is a great example of how the new media can give disabled sports the attention that it deserves. Some videos of the events were just wonderful.
I'm tired of waiting for the old media to change and quite obviously, so was the IPC (残奥会委员会). Ilook forward to more coverage.
