It was not planned for the two of us to meet nor to become friends. It was not planned for me to have a new true friend after I lost my closest one, nor for him to have me as a friend. That's why I believe in the power a coincidence could have of powerful influence on people's lives and destinies.
I met him once or twice at the beginning of the second year at classroom. He was attending the same lecture I was attending . We were in the same school year and we hadn't known each other before. A strange and an overwhelming feeling ran down my body for no reason. I sensed that his presence would cast a makeover on my life,either good or bad ,either way, I would get in something with him. I felt that, and my feeling never lied to me.
For me, he was a normal person. He liked reading books more than anything else. He would spend hours reading a book or looking through a magazine. He was a bookworm maybe. He was also picky about choosing his stuff- and that exactly what made some of his colleagues look suspiciously at him and call him Weirdo. Anyway, days ran quite normally and no big change was smelled out in my life nor in his, I guess.
The year passed like the one before. I gained nothing but lost one of the best friends I've ever had in my life. He failed his school year because of a conspiracy a friend of his had made to get rid of him. Just because he was smarter, funnier and a more accepted person among his peers. His friend couldn't endure the love he saw in my best friend's friends' eyes to him, so he made up some trick and, unluckily, it worked.
I wondered sadly why would God take the good things out of me although I enjoyed them. But after some time, I realized that He knew better and He did do that for a purpose I didn't know then.
Now it's the fresh lecture of the third year. I was alone again.Honestly,I wasn't that enthusiastic for school for I was alone all time with no true friend to share with him my little secrets. I had no friend to talk to and to walk with when I was lonely or had some time to spare. Wasn't that heart wrenching?! I think it was.
Not long time after until I met the Weirdo again. He was sitting next to me on the same bench. I heard him talking philosophy to a friend of his. They were talking and laughing ,even at trivial things. I envied both of them for having each other, while I was such an outcast. Actually, I was a bit surprised too. I never heard a person at his age had that big deal of knowledge. He even mentioned names of books that were likely hard to recall even after repeating the titles ten times.
If only he had a friend like him! I whispered and looked forward afterwards. He had the same qualities I wished to find in a friend, if I were lucky enough to have another one. He was exactly what I had been in search of in a friend. After the lecture ended, he asked me about some notes the teacher had said and he couldn't understand. I laughed and told him I wasn't focusing either. We exchanged slight jokes and humor. I realized then that a promising friendship may be knocking at my door within a spell of days. And it really happened. Our friendship grew more stronger and we got to know each other quite well. I discovered in him many qualities that one would like to have in one's friend. We used to spend long hours together talking and laughing-as if God has answered that prayer. His friendship filled up the space that my ex friend had left as well as refurbished the broken parts within me, Now, at the time being, we are great friends; We always keep in touch and tell each other about everything, even trivial things.
We are true friends.
Friendship is an invaluable relationship. And a book cannot be judged by its cover. That's what I've come out with from this experience.
