Abstract The movement and idiosyncrosy of poetic emotions show different charactristics with different composers. When these charactristics are assembled in an order and condense,settle and serialize in a certain external form, they are the emotional patterns of poetry. Houzhu ( or the Last Lord)of South Tang Liyu was mediocre in politics but was praised as "Emporer of Poetry" His later poetic works directly express the emotions in his bosom which are sincere and deep. They have an expansive aura , have been chanted for thounds of years and deserve to be called "Immortal Songs". This article explores their irresistable charms from the perspective of the emotional patterns of his later poetry. and treats it in four ways : 1.deeply contrasted life experience is the moment of expressing emotions 2 use tendency as a guide to lineal intuitive expression of feelings 3. "profound deplorement" is the qualitative determinant of emotional patterns 4. the position and influence of the emotional patterns of Liyu's later works
