The last one is easy. You will score 5 additional points, because of relatives and/or family members in Canada.
The second one is neither easy or difficult to answer. I would say yes and no. The requirement is for the applicants to prove their language proficiency. If you have a PhD in English literature and have lived in an English speaking country for many years and have used English at work for ages. You can present your case to the immigration officer, with support evidence, to argue your case. Unless your have confidence, you are advised to pass an objective English test either ELTS, TOEFL and those administered by the local universities. The first 2 are more popular, ELTS in particular.
The first one is difficult to answer. Before the IRPA,i.e. the Immigration and Refugee protection Act, the Immigration Canada maintained a list of all occupations and there are points attached to each occupation.
After IRPA since May 28, 2004, the CIC decided skills transferability is more important, so no matter what your specialty is, you will score points as long as your skills are considered transferable. For example, if your major is math and you know software programming, you are considered like a computer programmer.
You did tell us your major, so it is difficult for me to judge if you have transferable skills.
For example, if you specailize in a Qing language, and in the world there are 2 people speaking the language. Your skills are not transferable.
